  1. (continued from previous page)
To my cottage home by Lough Shelin's side.
    IV
But alas our joy was too good to last,
For the landlord came our home to blast.
I asked for mercy, but he answered "No"
And drove us forth in the blinding snow.
    V
Then no one would open to us their door,
For fear his vengeance would on them fall.
My Eileen fainted, in my arms she died.
As the snow fell fast by Lough Shelin's side.
    VI
I laid her down in the Churchyard low
Where daisies and wild willows grow,
I shed no tear for my fountain dried,
On that awful night by Lough Shelin's side.
    VII
Farewell my country farewell for 'er,
The big ship now takes me far away.
But where ever I go my young heart's delight
Lies in Eileen's grave by Lough Shelin's side.
