  1. A great well contested football match was played about 58 years ago. The teams were from the parish of Meelin and Lismire. There were twenty one at each side. This match was played by stalwart men much on the same principle as Rugby. It was played on the big field by the road side now possesed by Mr Tim Kiely, Lismire.
    For the following Sunday a challenge was sent from Freemount and Tullylease for a match which was to be played at Tullylease, but the priest then in Freemount made an objection as he considered it would be played with too much bitter feelings.
