  1. The local fairs are held in Newmarket, Kanturk, and Ballydesmond. They are always held in towns. The buyers transact business in the country side but not often. They do not transact business at cross-roads or in farmer' houses. In former times a fair was held at Dromtariffe which is now discontinued. I do not know why. There are not any traditions of fairs held on hills, in the neighbourhood of cemeteries or castles. The fairs are held in a fair field in Newmarket.
    Toll is paid on the cattle sold. On old cattle six-pence is paid and
