- In olden times girls in their spare time when coming and going from school made necklaces and bracelets, they made those toys from daisies. They first tied what we call "soldiers" together, they then broke the stems from the daisies and put the soldiers through them, they kept doing so until the chain was the required size They used those chains for decorating statues and altars at home, and offered them to the Blessed Virgin because it is the earliest flower of the year.
