- Long ago the Irish were forbidden to go to mass. There was a price on a priest's or teacher's head. Mass was said in lonely glens while some one was sent to watch for fear of soldiers.
Mass was said in a lonely glen in Mr. C. Brodrick's land of Glencarney in the parish of Clonfert in the Co. of Cork. This glen was called Gleann an Aifrean. The remains of this old church is still to be seen, a ring of sods beside a bank. I obtained this from my father M. Angland New Street (age 55 years)
