- Story (32) A McCarthy chieftain was building a Castle near Kanturk. According as he met the people going to Cork with butter he killed them and wet the cement with their blood. Someone said it would never be finished. He heard this and he said that it should be finished.
One day he went to Limerick to arrange some business. The horse shed a shoe
He went into the forge to get a new one on. The smith said he had no iron to make it. Then McCarthy handed him his own gun to make it. There was a charge in the gun and when put into the fire it exploded and shot McCarthy. Meanwhile he had sent his men for glass for the Castle. When they heard of his death they threw it into the river. A bridge was built near this place and it was called Áth na Gloine ever afterwards(continues on next page)- Collector
