    McCarthy the Yank
    To put money in bank,
    Of late sent word all around
    That he'd play an old goat,
    For half a pound-note
    Or perhaps the one-fourth of a pound.
    Last Saturday night
    With the moon shining bright,
    O'er woodland and valley and rill
    The neighbours came thronging
    Some walking, some jogging,
    To Callaghan's forge at Gooseberryhill.
    First came McCarthy
    Quiet and hearty;
    The goat following after quiet peaceful was led
    With his tail cocked on high
    Towards the blue sky
    And a piece of a sugán
    Tied round his head.
    Now says McCarthy,
    Each man that is willing
    To put down a shilling
    To beg or to borrow the money to pay
