    that owned the turkey-cock gave it to a neighbour and she then sent word to the huntsman that her turkey-cock was killed by the foxes. There was a song made up about the woman. It is as follows.
    I'd pawn my fathers old frieze coat,
    I'd steal some turkey-cocks,
    Before I'd cheat two dirty pounds,
    By lying about the fox.

  2. Many stories are told about Capel's Hole which is situated about a mile and a half from Cloghroe. I shall relate one of the stories.
    Long ago a widow was living with her way-ward son in a house just where Capel's Hole is now. She was unable to control her son and this caused her great affliction. One day however some soldiers belonging to Capel a wealthy man who lived near were passing through her yard and she asked them to chastise her son and they agreed. There was a horse put in the yard and the soldiers hung her son from the shaft. The widow was grieved when she saw her son lying dead on the ground but the soldiers only mocked her and she had great difficulty in keeping her patience with them. The soldiers
