- Long ago the people wore no shoes. About sixty years ago the people had a pair of shoes for going to Mass and to town. If the Sunday was wet they would not put their shoes until they went near the Church gate. Some people wore no shoes going to Mass and the children did not wear them summer or winter.The boys wore flannel petticoats and dresses going to school until they were nine or ten years of age and then they got a pants.
