  1. There were certain women who were skilled in composing poetry extempore, and they were in great request. One night some men were going to the wake of a certain man. They were met on the way by a woman who asked to let her go with them to the wake. Arrived there, she began a caoineadh. In the course of the lament the men learned that the dead man was her brother.
    "D'iarras ortha go leogfaidís leo mé
    Fóiríor dóighte! Is agam-sa a bhí an gnó dhe"
    Later, addressing widow of deceased, she said:-
    "Fear a gheobhair-se má bhíonn nídh agat
    Dearbhráthair ní bhfaghad-sa anois ná choidhche."
