- The ancient people had many different cures for sicknesses such as for whooping cough they would give the sick person ferret's milk to drink that was cow's milk which the ferret would have tasted.
For mumps they would put hot, boiled potatoes into a stocking around the person's neck, because they thought the heat of the steam was curing.
For measles they would gather sheep's manure and boil it in milk and give the milk to the patient to drink.
