  1. As late as fifty years ago the women used wear mantles on their heads for caps and hoops in their skirts and when they used sit down their skirts would fan out. They had red flannel petticoats and the colour of their skirts was navy blue and in the Summer they wore very bright coloured dresses and the dresses were all covered with frills and they were very long nearly down to their toes. There was a tailor in Ardfield. His name was Sullivan Ruadh. He lived where Mrs Foley lives now. He made a lot of clothes especially the men's clothes. They wore frieze trousers and flannel shirts and wrappers. swallowtail and hats.
