    with painful excitement until she was dashed on the rocks near a cave between the Red Strand and Slate Cove. One man dressed in storm attire, top boots oiled cloth hat, coat and trousers, jumped overboard before she struck, and bravely fought the billows for over half an hour to witness his ship and crew perish beyond all aid as it was impossible for those on shore to render assistance where the vessel struck. Still there was hopes on one survivor as the able seaman showed little signs of fatigue. He called out to the men on shore asking if any had been saved and on hearing that all had perished dived to the bottom to be seen no more alive. It was afterwards revealed that the ill-fated vessel was a pirate that had been engaged scouring the irish coast and that the man went voluntary
