  1. Before separaters were invented the people had a different way for making butter. First they used put the milk into earthenware pans, until the cream would come on top of it, they would skim off the cream then and put it into a large pan. These pans had to be scaulded every day with boiling water, because if any drop of milk was left in them and fresh milk put into them the milk would get sour. They had to do this every day for a week before they would churn. Then the women would take a basket of butter to town, and some-
