In Kilbrittain parish long ago there was a man and his name was Tom Long.

In Kilbrittain parish long ago there was a man and his name was Tom Long. He used always go to a wake or a funeral. One night there was a wake in a house and Tom went to it. In olden times they used to spread straw on the floor in a wake. And all the men used to stretch themselves on it. Tom stretched himself on the floor all the people were at him. The people of the house were very angry and they took him down in the parlour. While he was there the people were not talking atall to him and he said in Irish
"Is fearr é an imreas na an t-uaigneas"
He went up again to the kitchen
