  1. Long ago school was taught in the farmers houses. The Master was paid by the day, he used get two or three shillings a day. He used be in a different house every day. The poor mans child used go to the farmers house every day to be taught and he need pay nothing to the Master. He was called the poor scholar. All the scholars wrote on slate. The Master always lodged in the house that he taught in.
