  1. Timoleague Abbey contained some beautiful altar vessels when the English soldiers came to burn the Abbey they tried to take away these vessels but they were trapped by the flames of the burning Abbey. When they could not take them away they threw them into the slob and the slob opened and swallowed them up and every year since the slob has risen higher and higher so that no boat can go over there now. The bell was also thrown in but the Protestants recovered it and it is now on the Protestant church in Clonakilty.
