  1. (continued from previous page)
Came forth the minions of the Crown,
To glut their ire by hunting down
    The fearless Tadhg an Astna.
    3.
He was a rebel brave and bold,
Of agile step and giant mould.
At manly feats no man could hold,
His own 'gainst Tadhg an Astna.
    4
But manly feats will not avail,
When leaden bullets fall like hail.
As they did there at Shannonvale,
That day round Tadg an Astna.
    5.
    Where Argideen's waters flow,
Through Shannonvale he was laid low,
But many knaves got their death blow,
That day from Tadg an Astna.
    6
Now in this fight of later days,
When voice and men the sword's part plays,
Be mine the task to sing in praise.
