  1. Mother told me they had an old servant long ago who taught them the following game:-
One person would hold a splinter of fir or some such thing, with a spark on the end of it; she would then hand it to another person sitting at the fire with her, and say:-
    "Seo mo firín duit"
Number Two would take the splinter and ask:-
    "Cad is fiú do firín?
Number One would take it again and say
    "Firín beo, firín marbh
Dá bhfaghaidh mo firín beó bás
    Idir do dá láimh
    Bíodh an trom, trom ort"
They would keep on saying this until the spark would die and whoever would have it when it would quench should pay a forfeit.
Mother said the servant gave them the following translation of the words:-
1 "Here's me little man for you
    2 What is he worth?
1 He's worth this, and he's worth that,
And if he dies between your two hands,
Let all the load be on you."
