Long ago the bands were made of sheep-gut but now we use picture-cord. The spindle is slipped into the warrow, which is kept up by two lúbáin made of rushes. The warrow is attached to the cord and wheel.
Grandmother used to say that when she was young, the women took their spinning wheels to the houses of their friends, and while they worked, they chatted or sang. The songs were called "spinning songs" Some of them, both in English and Irish are still known.- Collector
