- I
In youth we are as joyous,
As e'er our days could be,
No care to sully or mark our brow,
But song and laugh and glee.II
Man is now erect and strong
In mind and muscle too,
His heart is brave and fearless
His strength regains anew.III
The robust health that man enjoys
Give him some trouble now,
His hair is changed to silver grey,
And furrows on his brow.IV
Man is bent, with stick in hand,
Let his days be sour or sweet,
He'll soon return to Mother Earth,
His journey is complete.
