  1. The people of each district have their own festival customs as they occur each year. The people of Ireland on St. Stephen's Day, go around from house to house singing the "wren":-
    Mr. So and so is a worthy man
    And to his house I brought my wren
    I brought my wren to visit him here
    I wish him a merry Christmas
    and a merry New Year.
    The wren, the wren, the King of all birds
    On St. Stephen's Day was caught in the furze
    Although he is small, his family is great
    Rise up. old woman and give us a "trate"
    And if you fill it of the best
    I hope in heaven your soul will rest
    But if you fill it of the small
