  1. In the workhouse grounds there are the ruins of an old school. The school was at the right hand side of the gate leading into the workhouse. The school was burned about 18 years ago. This year the ruins of the school were knocked down for the purpose of building the hospital at Schull.
The children were taught by Miss O’Donovan who now relies in Skibbereen. There was a special apartment in the workhouse where the children used to sleep. There was a good many children attending the school.
