    Account of "Great Snow"
The snow was falling for six weeks, until it was three to four feet high in places. Cattle were kept inside, and lived chiefly on snow which was melted over the fire, mixed with some grain. When the snow was all melted away only one thrush was to be found in each of the three places - Shannava, Coolagh and Greenmount.
