  1. Now dreams to some come very true,
    They come a joy to more.
    As they did to me about my country
    And poor old Erin's shore.
    I dreamt I was upon a hill beside a lonely vale
    'Tis there I spied a charming maid and her name was Gráine-mhaol.

    As I drew near I then could hear
    With the pleasant morning gale
    The song she sang as she went along
    I'm poor old Gráine-maol.
    I hastened on my footsteps and words to her did say.
    "Are you from the heavens above or what brought you this way.?"
    And with a sigh she did reply, saying,
    "My grief I can't conceal
    For my patriot John Dillon, was lately put to jaol.
    Yes! he was put into prison and the reason we can see
    For loving dear old Ireland.
