In Dublin town I was brought up.
That city of great fame
My parents reared me honestly,
And many will tell the same.
But being a brave bold Fenian boy
Was sent accross the main,
For seven long years to New South Wales,
To wear a convict chain.
There were seven long links upon this chain,
and in every link a year,
Before I can return to the country I love dear.

No longer than I was six months on the Australian shore
I turned to be a Fenian again,
As I was one before.
There was Mac na Mára and Under Wood.
And captain Mackey too
They were the chief associates of brave Jack Donoghue.
