  1. Marriages are most frequent in Shrove in this district.
Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays are regarded as unlucky days for marriages. Marriages are not frequent in the months of May, October, and December. Matches are made by the parents, or friends, or sometimes the boy and girl make their own matches. Marriages were held in houses up to twenty five years ago. Money is always given as fortune. When the wedding party comes home a feast is partaken of. The wedding party used to race with horses long ago but now the guests go in motor cars. The guests used to go in side cars, and the man and wife used to come home in a covered car.
