  1. Basket making is still is still going on in the district, but on a small scale. It is done by the people of the islands around the district. Rope making is still carried on in the district. It is done at the time of the haystacks. The ropes are made of hay, and straw. They do not last very long. They are called sugans. Gate making is still carried on by the smiths of the district. Nail making was carried on in the district. There was a nailer in Ballydehob, and his name was James Punch. He used to make nails out of rod iorn.
    There were lime kilns in the district also. There was one at the quay, and one near the Greenmount road. There is a gap in a ditch in the Greenmount road called the lime kiln gap.
