  1. One of the local heroes is Dan O'Mahony who was born at Dreenlomane, about two miles from Ballydehob. He is a great weight thrower, and wrestler also. He is able to throw the half cwt. over fifteen feet over the bar, and he can throw it over thirty two feet without follow. He has held the hevy-weight championship of the world in wrestling without defeat.

  2. The father of Dan O Mahony was another hero. In a village called Goleen he did 50 feet in a hop-step and jump. Micheal Cahalane from Ballybawn was another one our local heroes, he jumped
