  1. In olden times there was a churn used called the upright churn. This churn was round at the bottom, and narrowed towards the top, but did not come to a point. On the top of this churn was a cover, and through a hole in the cover was passed a stick, and at lower end a round piece of timber was attached, and this stick used to be moved up and down, and in this way the butter was made.
