  1. In this district Mondays and Fridays are considered unlucky for marriage and even Wednesdays by some people. People get married all through the year except during May but particularly in Shrove and more often on Shrove Tuesday.
    Matches are made in the houses and people also go to meet one another to towns to make them.
    Money is usually given as dowry but in ancient times it was quite common to give cattle, horses, and stock
    Marriages often took place in the houses and the Priest used say Nuptial Mass in the house. A wedding feast was then prepared and partaken of. Long ago the person getting married used always borrow some article of clothing and wear it for luck. The mothers of the persons getting married used never go to the Chapel while the wedding ceremony was going on. When it was over the woman usually rode home on
