The hens sleep in a house called the fowl - house. They lay their eggs inside in boxs' which are in the house. They sleep every night on perches. We hatch the eggs in Spring. We put thirteen eggs in a box and we put a clucking hen down on them. The eggs are three weeks hatching before the chickens come out. We know if there is a bird in the egg by putting the egg up between us and the light, and if there is a black spot in the egg there is a bird in it. Long ago the people used to keep the hens in a coop in the kitchen.
