Malone is a native of North Kerry. He travels on foot. It is said that he was in college to be a priest, but he got queer. He takes lodging, but he never takes alms. When he comes we give him his supper. He is very well educated and always uses big words when talking. He wears a long coat like that of a priest, and a hard hat.
He came to our house one night last August. We told him that there were rats in the kitchen and he spent the greatest part of the night walking about the kitchen and examining the rat holes behind the dresser.
He came for lodging another night, and before we went to bed he went to the door, and he said that the next day would be terribly wet. The next day, however, turned out gloriously fine. He says that he has a musty taste in his mouth when he awakes on a wet morning.
