  1. The following song was composed about Timothy Cadogan Coomdelame who was hanged for the murder of William Birde a Bantry landlord.
    Farewell to friends and relatives at home and far away,
    The sword of death will cut away my thread of life this day,
    With heart and hand I write those lines for my country men to see,
    That I am going to face my God on a shameful gallow tree.
    A sad and dreary month has passed since I was guilty found,
    For the murder of W. S. Birde that day in Bantry town,
    On the eleventh day of January I am summoned to appear,
    Before the judgement seat of God my sentence there to hear.

    It was cruel and wicked evidence that swore my life away,
    I never thought it would be my lot to die in Cork County jail,
    Till December 1900 my prosecutors swore,
