  1. G.W. Birde, Bantry, was the landlord over Bantry. He was a bad landlord. He was going to evict a Cadogan man from near Bantry because he would not pay him the rent. One day as he was collecting rent in Bantry he was shot. They suspected that it was Tim Cadogan shot him.
A Denis man from Whiddy and a Dukelow girl from Ballydehob swore that they saw Tim Cadogan with a revolver in his hand. Tim Cadogan was hanged on January 11th, in the year 1901. There was a song composed about Cadogan.
    I
Tim Cadogan was a farmer's son,
    His lawful debts he paid,
    Of landlord nor of bailiff,
    He never was afraid.
One day he went to Bantry town,
    'Twas in the afternoon,
As he had often done before,
    In Winter time and June.
