  1. Potatoes are grown every year on our farm. My father sows about a half acre but not of all the same quality.
In the month of January, farm manure is drawn from the farm-yard by a horse and car to where the potatoes will be sown. It is then spread over the green grass lightly and left there until the ploughing day, but before any operations are proceeded with cattle are brought in to the plot to eat any grass that would be there, because any grass would make it very difficult for the ploughman to plough his field for the most essential crop he reaps annually. The ground is ploughed throughout all the plot and is then shaped into ridges- a plough is used for the making of these. The potatoes are stuck by a spade which is bought in s local store.
The potatoes are prepared by spreading them thinly on the floor of a dark loft or store house. In this way the potatoes sprout out. Then the farmer comes and cuts them into various parts leaving an eye in each part. They are then carried out to the field where they will be sown.
