  1. There are several ancient standing stones in the parish. They are to be found in fields. It is said that there were people buried near the stones the time of the famine. There is one stone about six feet high standing in the centre of a field in Gurtroe. There are eleven stones in the townland of Cappanabowl. They are about three feet high. Ten of them form a circle and there is one in the centre.
    There are certain carvings on the stones. There are crosses and lines marked on them. There is one in Shandrum Mór in the centre of a field also. It is three feet nine inches
