    Sad is the fate Granua's sons
    Likewise her daughter fair,
    Who cannot stay in their own native land.
    Where scenes are rich and rare.
    They wander from the shannon side.
    The Barrow, Lee, and Nore,
    And bid adieu, perhaps for aye,
    To dear old Erin's shore.
    To all their friends they bid good-by
    Likewise their neighbours kind;
    The big salt-tears bedim their eyes.
    as they leave their homes behind.
    To parents true they bid adieu
    They ne'er may see them more-
    and sisters fond and brothers true.
    On dear old Erin's shore.
    Nowadays 'tis very strange,
    When Irelands almost free-
    Tis free a least from Saxon chains
