    A I roved out one evening down by the riverside.

    As I roved out one evening down by the river side, I heard a maid complaining as the tears rolled from her eyes,
    It was a cold and stormy night my love to me did say?,
    My love lies on the region seas bound for America.
    John Rilly is my true love name lives near the town of Bray,
    My Mam'na took me my the hand and those word to me did say,
    If you me fond Rilly let him quit this country,
    For this very night to take his life so shun his company.
