Naghten was fox hunting through Fr. Davise's land. The hounds happened to rise a fox and chased him through the priest's fowl. Just then Tom drew the gun to shoot the fox but they shouted at him not to fire for fear he might shoot some of his fowl but he paid no attention to the only fired the shot. The priest got angry and told him that he would leave him yelping like a dog for the rest of his life. From that day until the day he died he could do nothing but yelp.
