  1. About one hundred years ago there was a hedge school in Clonellen. At night they used to have school. There were seven or eight men going to that school. The teacher's name was Johnie Mul Stones. He used to go to different parts of the district teaching. They used to have school out in the open air. They used to have a big griddle for a black-board. They used to have rushes rolled in dip and bog deal dried by a fire to show them light. Every man used to bring a penny a day.
