About one hundred yards to the South of Mick Fallon's (?) house in Culleenirwan there is an ordinary rough standing stone. Scarcely noticeable. It bears the following inscription

"Bread was dear in year 1729"

The "S" and "a" are the ordinary S ans A used in modern English writing or rather English printing. One would expect the "S" to be the old-fashioned "f" used at the time but it is not.
