    St. Brigid's Eve.
On St Brigid's Eve, crosses made of sally rods and straw were placed in the roofs of the houses. Two pieces of sally rod were taken and crossed with each other. Each piece 5" or 6" long. Straw was then woven or platted until something in the shape given, was attained. The cross was then placed in the scraw of the roof and left there. Sometimes two or three crosses were made to please children. These crosses may still be seen in several houses. In some cases however the ceiling of later years has concealed them.
