  1. Long ago people used to make their candles out of rushes. John Cloher was the best basket - maker. John Gallagher, Curnasee, Kiltoom, was a great spade maker. Michael Hanley, Ballymurry, Kiltoom, was the best plough - maker. Paddy Gallagher, Curramore, Kiltoom, was the best gate maker, he makes gates for all the neighbours round. Larry Kerrigan, Ports, Kiltoom, was the best thatcher. Mr. Naughton, in Athlone was the best churn maker, he used to make three churns in a day.
