    I'm sitting watching the coal fires burning.
    But my heart and thoughts they are far from here.
    For fancies 'pinions they are now returning.
    To where Cork's dear old peaks appear.
    There is something there in the shelf above me.
    But ah with sadness my heart it fills.
    What a flood of memory it brings all o'er me.
    That sod of turf from the Boggerach Hills.

    Just a sod of turf that with deep devotion.
    I brought from home as a souvenir.
    T'was little I thought when I crossed the ocean.
    That t'would one day cause me to shed a tear
    And although that tear it may ne'er stop flowing.
