  1. Milling.
    There were 3 mills, 2 still working on a small scale. Oatmeal and wheaten flour are ground.
    Oats are also "crushed".
    The Macroom oatmeal has a great reputation in district, and as far as E. Kerry & N. Cork. Steps were recently taken to organise the industry on a large scale, & make it better known, but unfortunately, the movement led to nothing.
    It is a seasonable occupation, a number of hands being employed occasionally in "drying" at the kilns, but they are necessarily idle for long periods.
