  1. In olden times it was the custom of the people to live in thatched houses and in mud cabins. These houses were divided in two by a coop for the hens and a dresser. These houses were very small containing only a room and a kitchen.
    They slept in beds which were hung up on the walls in the day and let down at night. Others slept in taster beds which were warm having a hood over them.
    In some parts of the country the horses and cos were kept in the kitchen.
