The bán is ploughed after being manured; ridges "settled" with grafán or spade; scioláns "stuck" with ráinín scioláns & carried in máilín sciolán tied round the waist; "holes" the closed with spade or pike; "first-earthed" before slants appear; "second-earthed" after plants appearing above surface; sprayed at least twice - three times if weather is foggy; later dug with spades - stored in pits or dry houses; criocháns given to animals - picked separate off ridges.

    Scealbóg - what is left of potato after scioláns are cut off it.
