  1. Football is popular game at present; was played here well before the modern ball came into use.
    At one game played in Gort Uí Chéin in Sléibhín between both sides of the parish "Rimmy[?] (Redmond) Leary of [?] - "as strong as a bull" - tore thro' them all & getting the ball to other side of the field clapped it down on the field and shouted to spectators :
    "A-all in the f-field of 'um wouldn't t-take it off a me" - has an impediment.
    No rules or goals - ball thrown up in middle of field & the side who got it to the other end first, won.
