  1. John Holland, Baile na Carraige, worked as a shoe-maker at Allihies and became known as "Seán na Ceaiste " - threw a méaróg across Dursey Sound (176 yds.).
    Seán Ó Séaghdha, Sliabh an Oileáin, Allilhies, spent 15 yrs. in bed sick, had a mitheal turning and got up to show them how it was to be done, jumped a cumar 16ft. wide on his way to the field; was the 75 yrs. of age, didn't go sick anymore until he died 20 yrs. later. His father lived to be 110 yrs.
